REVIEW | MÁDARA ORGANIC SKIN CARE

MÁDARA Organic Skin Care review

MÁDARA is a brand that I tried a few years ago for the first time. I remember using a few body care products, but I never felt the need to give their skin care range a try. Recently, they came up with a new line called SOS, specifically designed to restore hydration. Today I’m sharing my thoughts and experience with you…

THE BRAND | MÁDARA

MÁDARA Cosmetics was founded in 2006 in Riga, Latvia. MÁDARA develops and produces organic skin & body care products. Ingredient wise, they tend to use certified blossoms and herbal extracts from the Baltic region. The brand name MÁDARA is the Latvian name for a common plant of the Baltic meadows, widely known as bedstraw. Its pattern is also depicted in the logo of MÁDARA, which I love. All products are certified by ECOCERT and packaged in FCS certified, recyclable packaging. Their slogan deeper than skin intrigued me even more to try these products!

Aesthetically speaking, MÁDARA does a wonderful job. All of their images and campaigns online make me feel like I’m wandering through a Latvian forest – very calming, tranquil. Likewise, the packaging is simple and sleek, with a nice touch of Latvian nature.

Madara-organic-skin-care-2REVIEW | SOS HYDRA RECHARGE CREAM + MICELLAR WATER

The first product I tried was the SOS Hydra Recharge Cream, which is part of their brand new SOS hydration range:

Intense moisture-locking cream infused with age-defying antioxidants of Northern peony, linseed, and hyaluronic acid. Hydrates, replenishes and calms dehydrated and stressed skin to restore youthful radiance. Acts as a protective layer against environmental damage, this soft textured cream reduces the look of fine lines and promotes optimal hydration.

The first thing I noticed when using this cream was its smell. Such a lovely – yet very organic – rose scent. All MÁDARA products have a beautiful organic scent to them which is hard to describe. Texture wise, the cream is pink and similar to a fluid. However, upon application, it feels much more like a cream than a fluid and it’s easy to spread as well. Another thing that I noticed is the subtle glow that comes with using this cream. It has a very sheer, natural brightening effect that I notice every time after application, which I really like. My skin feels noticeably softer and more supple after a few weeks, but I can’t tell that it’s more hydrated than it was before.

One thing that I genuinely dislike is the inclusion of alcohol. I wouldn’t mind if it were at the end of the ingredient list, but it’s listed as the third ingredient. Why the inclusion of alcohol in a cream that is supposed to restore, moisturize (cracking) dry skin? No irritation appeared on my skin, but I would have liked it more nonetheless without the alcohol. For that very reason, I would only recommend it if you have normal to combination skin and don’t need a lot of moisture. In case you have (very) dry skin, MÁDARA offers a few other creams that contain no alcohol and seem to work perfectly!

Ingredients: Aqua, simmondsia chinensis, alcohol, glycerin, caprylic/capric triglyceride, glyceryl stearate, dicaprylyl carbonate, behenyl alcohol, rosa damascena, hippophae rhamnoides, sodium PCA, lecithin, fragrance, cetearyl alcohol, titanium dioxide (CI 77891), cellulose, stearic acid, palmitic acid, urtica dioica, linum usitatissimum, glycine soja (sterols), paeonia lactiflora (peony) root extract, xanthan gum, sodium hyaluronate, sodium phytate, iron oxide red CI77491, lactic acid, citronellol, geraniol, benzyl salicylate, eugenol

MÁDARA Organic Skin Care reviewSecondly, I tried MÁDARA’s Micellar Water:

All-in-one, no-rinse cleansing – ideal for daily use and perfect for travel. Removes make-up and impurities, balances and hydrates even sensitive skin in one single step. Based on moisturising aloe vera, skin quenching hyaluronic acid and calming Northern peony.

I always use micellar water at night time to take my makeup off, so I was wondering how this one would compare to my usual favourites. Like all MÁDARA products, it has a beautiful scent to it that makes it more enjoyable to use. It takes makeup off easily, leaves my skin soft and there’s no greasy residue at all. I also didn’t detect any kind of stinging or irritation, which I have experienced with other brands. As the bottle is narrow and long, it’s perfect for travel or to pop in your handbag as well! Yes, we’ve got a real winner here; I love it.

Ingredients: Aloe barbadensis, rosa damascena, hamamelis virginiana, glycerin, benzyl alcohol, sodium PCA, potassium sorbate, lactic acid, fragrance, sodium hyaluronate, paeonia lactiflora (peony) root extract, caprylic/capric glucoside, xylitylglucoside, propanediol, anhydroxylitol, xylitol, phragmites communis extract, poria cocos extract, rhamnose, glucose, glucuronic acid.

VERDICT

I’m pleasantly surprised by MÁDARA’s skin care range. I’m usually always hesitant about trying natural, organic products as they can be either overpowering or reactive on the skin. However, MÁDARA’s products have proven that they are incredibly gentle and suitable for sensitive skin. What else can we ask for?

You can find MÁDARA online or in selected stores.

MÁDARA’s SOS Hydra Recharge Cream retails for 33,00 euro/50 ml & the Micellar Water retails for 14,50 euro/100 ml

Have you tried anything by MÁDARA?

Much love,

Adyss
